USEtox interface – Personal care products (PCPs)

Personal care products are consumer products used mainly for personal hygiene or beautification

What is this interface used for?

The PCP interface is used to assess the human and ecotoxicological impacts of chemicals in personal care products (PCPs). There are 59 default products currently, including hand/face cream, bodywash, shampoo/conditioner, lip balm, eye makeups, toothpaste, deodorant, fragrance, sunscreen, nail products, etc. The human exposure pathways mainly include inhalation and dermal absorption by the product user, either adult or child depending on the product. For the ecosystem, exposure occurs mainly through products that are washed off down the drain after use, which go through the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) and reach the freshwater.
